The First Town to Introduce the Croatian Language
Slavonia is known for being a very flat area, yet Požega is surrounded by several mountains. Namely: Psunj, Papuk, Dilj and Požeška gora. Such terrain begs for planting vineyards, so lovers of the glass will have a lot of opportunities. The fertile land drew people in to inhabit the area, and history tells us Požega had military fortifications already in the 13th century. As time passed , it soon became one of the most vital settlements in the region, and had the status of a free royal city (meaning its governors had more independence than those ruling without such a feature).
